FAQ

What clients ask before they call

Do you represent plaintiffs or defendants?

Both. About half our clients are bringing a claim and half are answering one. What they share is that they're usually the smaller party.

What kinds of clients do you take?

Closely held companies, their owners, subcontractors, landlords and tenants of commercial space, and businesses in disputes with their insurers. We don't take personal injury, family or criminal cases.

Which courts do you work in?

Most of our cases are in the Delaware state and federal courts, including the Court of Chancery. Each lawyer's page lists where they're admitted.

How quickly do I need to act?

If you've been served, the summons sets a short deadline to respond. If you're thinking of suing, the time to file is limited too. Call before either runs.

How much will a case cost?

It depends on how far it goes. We give you a budget for each stage in writing before it starts, and you can stop at any stage.

Can we settle instead of going to court?

Often, and we'll tell you when settling is the better choice. We prepare every case as if it will be tried, because that's what makes settlement offers serious.

Does the first call cost anything?

No. It's a conversation about whether we can help and what comes next. Billing starts only after you sign an engagement letter.

What should I send before we speak?

Nothing confidential through the website. On the first call we'll tell you what to send and how to send it securely.

Ask the question that isn't here

Ask it on a first call. It costs nothing, and a lawyer answers.
